More questions you may be asking
How do I schedule an appointment?
Contact me by phone, text, email, or through the contact form on this website. I will get back to you to discuss what you are looking for and find a time that works for both of us.
What ethical standard governs your practice?
I follow the ethical standards and biblical principles that govern responsible Christian counseling. My commitment is to treat every client with honesty, respect, discretion, and care; to maintain appropriate boundaries; to protect confidentiality; and to recognize the limits of my training and experience. When a client’s needs fall outside the scope of my practice, I will recommend or refer them to an appropriate licensed healthcare or mental-health professional.
Who do you work with?
I work with individuals, couples, families, and teens age 13 and older with parental consent. I work best with people who are willing to look honestly at their own patterns, take responsibility for the impact of their choices, and actively participate in the process of change.
Isn’t this the same kind of counseling I could receive at my church for free?
Possibly. If your church provides experienced pastoral counseling and you have access to the time and attention you need, I encourage you to use that resource. Private counseling offers dedicated one-on-one time, continuity, and the perspective that comes from more than 20 years of counseling experience
Do you offer virtual counseling?
Yes. Virtual counseling is available for clients who prefer to meet remotely or who are unable to come to the office. I prefer face-to-face counseling when possible, and unless you live outside the area, I generally like to meet in person for the initial consultation. Ongoing sessions may then be held either in person or virtually.
Do you counsel teens?
Yes. I work with teens age 13 and older with parental consent. I want teenagers to have a place where they can speak honestly and feel respected, while also recognizing the important role parents play in their lives and in the counseling process.
Why do you charge a broken appointment fee?
When you reserve an appointment, that time is held specifically for you and is no longer available to another client. If you cancel at the last minute or do not show up, I usually cannot fill the opening.
The fee also keeps missed appointments simple. Life happens, and sometimes people just do not feel up to coming. When the fee is understood in advance, there is no guilt, shame, irritation, or hard feelings. The missed time is handled fairly, and we simply move on.
What can I expect regarding confidentiality?
Confidentiality is essential to an effective counseling relationship. I will not release information about you to anyone without your written consent. North Carolina law requires me to report suspected child abuse, neglect, or dependency and suspected abuse, neglect, or exploitation of a disabled adult. I may also take appropriate action when there is an immediate threat to someone’s safety.
